DAMIEN HIRST EXHIBITION AT THE MERZ BARN
Damien Hirst one of Britain’s most famous artists has very generously donated one of his best known ‘Spin paintings’ in aid of the Kurt Schwitters Merz Barn restoration fundraising campaign. The Spin painting will go for auction along with other donated arts works at the RCA with Sotheby’s London in May, in aid of the Merz Barn restoration fund art auction. The campaign aims to raise £750,000 to restore the Merz Barn and the woodlands at Cylinders.
Damien Hirst also donated the painting so that the Kurt Schwitters Merz Barn project in Langdale could continue to create new economic opportunities and benefits for the local community, school children and artists in Cumbria. So before the painting goes for auction in London it will be placed on public display inside the Merz Barn at Cylinders Estate over the Easter holidays 2009. This is the first time that an art work by another artist has ever be displayed in Kurt Schwitters’ famous Merz Barn.
Damien Hirst Exhibition at the Merz Barn official opening, 6pm, Tuesday 7 April
You are cordially invited to the official unveiling of the Spin painting and other works about Damien Hirst at 6pm on Tuesday evening 7th April, at Cylinders Estate – opposite the Langdale Hotel, Elterwater, which will be followed by a community barbecue and entertainment by the Lakeland Fiddlers band and the Amblesingers. This is also the first major Damien Hirst painting to be exhibited in Cumbria. The painting will be on display and open to the general public at the Merz Barn 10am – 5.00pm daily, Wednesday 8th through to Sunday 19th April.
